Global Climate Change Digest
A Guide to Information on Greenhouse Gases and Ozone Depletion
Published July 1988 through June 1999
FROM VOLUME 11, NUMBER 9, SEPTEMBER 1998
As the new editor of Global Climate Change Digest, it is my
pleasure to join CEI in its task of providing people with objective and
accurate information about the environment and our stewardship of it.
After earning degrees in chemistry, technical writing, and mass
communication at Boston College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and the
University of Illinois, respectively, and serving as senior editor of
technical publications at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, I have been
involved in a number of projects. They include editing the newsletter of
the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center, writing U.S. position
papers on environmental policies for U.N. conferences, compiling
bibliographies on tropical forests and land use, editing books to guide
environmental decision makers, and documenting workshops and meetings on
global climate change and its assessment.
I commend my predecessor, Bob Pratt, for his fine job, spanning more
than a decade. On the one hand, I hope to live up to his high standards;
on the other hand, I expect to bring a different perspective and a
different mix of experiences to the position. I anticipate that changes
will be made as the publication and I mature, but those changes will be
evolutionary, not revolutionary. And as in evolution, if they do not
produce positive advantages, they will face demise.
I look forward to this new challenge and the intellectual stimulation
that it will bring to me and, I hope, to the readers of the Digest.
