FROM VOLUME 10, NUMBER 11, NOVEMBER 1997NEWS... IPCC IMPACTS REPORT
Item #d97nov88
At an October 1997 meeting held in the Maldives in the Indian Ocean, the
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released the Executive Summary
of its first report on the potential regional impacts of global warming.
This report provides a review of potential impacts throughout the world to
ecological systems, socioeconomic sectors, and human health; it also
presents options for adaptation. The full 600-page Special Report on
the Regional Impacts of Climate Change: An Assessment of Vulnerability,
to be published in December 1997 by Cambridge University Press, was
prepared, using the Second Assessment Report and more recent
peer-reviewed literature, as background for the Conference of Parties
in Kyoto. (See Science, p. 217, Oct. 10, 1997; The New York
Times, p. C1, Sep. 30. The summary is available at
http://www.usgcrp.gov/ipcc/html/RISPM.html.)
