Analysis of rainfall data indicates that dry periods are often
linked to ENSO events, and that their intensity has been
increasing over the past two or three decades. Suggests that
decision makers plan accordingly to reduce economic hardship

Estimated the response of the African monsoon area, using a
two-dimensional water vapor transport model coupled with a carbon
cycle model, that accounted for a positive feedback between
precipitation and root system development. For a system
comprising forest, savannah, semi-desert and desert, a new steady
state is reached in about 1500 years. Results compare favorably
with paleoprecipitation and paleotemperature data.
