This report summarizes the results of a comprehensive multiagency survey
of land cover and use parameters and requirements for both users and
producers of data.

Following the February 1992 Forum on Land Use and Land Cover cohosted by
USGS and the US Environmental Protection Agency, a multiagency task force
was formed to design a requirements survey for land cover and land use data.
Those agencies participating in the survey design were: Soil Conservation
Service, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, USGS, and the State of Maryland
Department of Natural Resources. The survey primarily canvassed Federal,
state and local agencies, although it also extended to some academic and
private organizations as well. The survey form was distributed through the
Federal Geographic Data Committee and through the USEPA's State Liaison
Office to programs within individual bureaus. A total of 397 responses were
returned and analyzed.
